So my dear friend Adán is in town, and he’s staying with me for a day before he goes to a preconference for SALALM tomorrow, and I’ve realized that he has become a Facebook junkie. As we bickered back and forth about how he uses Facebook, I realized that he was making good points about how he uses Facebook and other social networks for his professional work (as in this post to the SALALM blog and as in En Español: Libros y Revistas en la Biblioteca de Stanford, an open group in Facebook he’s put together for his Spanish-language library instruction sessions at Stanford). One comment he made that really struck me was, “I could put this information on the course page, but they ignore it there. If I create an open group on Facebook, put the information there, and ask them to join, they pay attention to it.”
So now I figure Adán is still a Facebook junkie, but he is a productive, and thoughtful, Facebook junkie. We can both live with that.
More as it happens,
Cheryl
