October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and lots of activities are planned from coast to coast. Seattle Public Library (SPL) has developed a reading list of titles that cover the disease and its treatment, along with survivor support. SPL’s online resources include numerous articles of interest. As a subtle reminder to patrons of the month’s focus, receipts for October checkouts will be printed on pink paper.
Here in New York, Penguin Group (USA), publisher of Viking, Putnam, Dutton, Berkley, New American Library, and many more imprints, has once more enjoined us to Read Pink™. The campaign involves 300,000 special-edition mass-market titles from eight popular Penguin authors: Nora Roberts, Catherine Anderson, Christina Dodd, Jillian Hunter, Lynn Kurland, Amanda Quick, Bertrice Small, and Lauren Willig.
The books will be adorned with an awareness-raising Read Pink™ seal and carry information about the Breast Cancer Research Foundation®, a nonprofit involved with funding “innovative clinical and translational research” to which Penguin will donate $25,000.
