ALA 2010: Who’s Staying for National Library Advocacy Day?

June 28th, 2010

It was certainly reasonable for the American Library Association (ALA) to swap the annual Library Legislative Day, typically held in Washington in May, for a national Library Advocacy Day, to be held tomorrow on the closing day of the Annual Conference.

Some 1300 people are preregistered [update 1:30 pm: it's up to 1600], which is far larger than the crowd of 400-650 people who attend the event in May. And those red “Vote for Libraries” t-shirts will make for a decent photo op.

But there are some 26,000 people at the conference. Apparently most of them have already headed home, or will do so tonight. (Also see results of the reader poll on LJ’s home page.)

Perhaps a good number of them will participate in Virtual Library Advocacy Day.

Visit ALA Annual Conference News for ongoing coverage of the conference by the editors of Library Journal and School Library Journal. Find shots of various ALA 2010 conference happenings on LJ’s Flickr page.
